Homesickness (SGA, McKay, Sheppard) [Image-heavy version]
Title: Homesickness
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Rating: G
Characters: McKay, Sheppard
Word count: 303
Summary: Rodney has never been one for post-it notes.
Warning: This is the image-heavy version. If you want just the text, you can go here.
Notes: Takes place during The Return, Part I. I have also gone on record as saying that I'd never write proper SGA fic, but apparently, post-it notes can get me to go back on my word. I apologize for my shitty handwriting, too.

Rodney's never been one for the post-it notes, because it takes more time to write things down than it does to type them up. Long hand is just not something he does anymore.

At the moment, he's getting used to Earth again, the weird things, like his refrigerator, like carpeting, like Area 51, and he just doesn't get the yellow pieces of paper that are everywhere in people's offices.

They didn't bring any with them on the first expedition, and if the Daedalus brought any on their supply runs, Rodney never saw them.

Area 51 seems to be run on post-its, though. Their supply closet has at least four shelves devoted to the damn things, varying in size and shape and color.Rodney likes them even less, now.

John, however, has a fondness for them, and when he stays at Rodney's place, he likes to leave them behind on

Rodney's bedroom door,

his toaster,

his toilet seat.

At first, it's simple stuff, like

YOU NEED MORE MILK

and

YOUR MEAT IS GOING BAD

on the refrigerator, and

CLEAN ME

near the kitchen sink.

But then other things start popping up, like

NO HANDLES

hidden where the hinges of the front door meet the wall,

THE WAY LIGHT LOOKS IN THE MORNING

against the window in Rodney's room,

THAT FAKE-CHICKEN I NEVER REALLY LIKED

on the stove.

Rodney doesn't know where John gets the post-its from, perhaps the SGC supply closet, but he certainly brings them with him when he visits, and he certainly takes them with him when he leaves.

Late one night, after John's gone to sleep, Rodney steals the pad from his luggage and writes on the top note,

ONE DAY (maybe)

and puts the pad back where he found it.

The next morning, after John's left for Colorado again, Rodney finds

YEAH

on his bathroom mirror.

And he smiles.

FIN.

Oh, I like it like this, too; with all the locations!

Thanks again! And it wouldn't be post-it note fic without random locations to stick them onto!

Oh, cute! I really like this. The locations and the handwriting and everything.

very cool, and very them. love the post-its, especially the morning light one up against the screen... tells a good story and looks really cool as well.

personally, i have giant arrow shaped post-its in electric blue, yellow, and pink.

Thanks! And yeah, I had no crazy post-its myself (alas), but I figured that it works better with traditional yellow, anyway.

SO cool. ::beams at you::

I love John's notes. Perfectly clear but also little puzzles at the same time. It's like getting a tiny glimpse into his brain and wanting the pieces that surround it. Although it's a killer to wait.
thedeadparrot: shepthedeadparrot on June 8th, 2007 02:31 am (UTC)
Thank you! And yeah, John has kind of a crazy brain. I think he's not even quite sure why he's leaving them behind, either.
What, does he wanna date me or kill me?: Shep BEEER!krysalys on June 8th, 2007 01:30 am (UTC)
Frickin' sweet, m'dear. Love the concept and the follow-through.
Well done.

Aahhahhahaahah!!1 That was brilliant. And not knowing where he gets them. LOL
thedeadparrot: rodneythedeadparrot on June 8th, 2007 02:45 am (UTC)
Thank you! Rodney just knows that John's not getting those post-its from Rodney, that's for sure. ;)

Also, Rodney's sink is really gross.

YOUR MEAT IS GOING BAD.

That is such a guy thing. Why throw it out? Let the fridge owner know about it, but don't throw it out for him.

Oh, boys.
thedeadparrot: shepthedeadparrot on June 8th, 2007 08:56 pm (UTC)
It totally is. There's a whole code of ethics I think they have, where you're not supposed to throw it away because hey, you never know, the other guy might actually have a use for it or something.

AWWW!!! yeah thats all I can come up with! Its so adorable! the way the pictures are taken! and the writting! and OMG it sounds like Rodney! And the John! just AWWWW! And now Im gonna have a thing for post its coz that line about the fake chicken and the way the light looks in the morning is just *huggles*

Coz yeah I think it'll be the little things they'll miss, things they didn't they they would, and then Rodney's (maybe) *sigh* just perfect.

*puts in memories*
thedeadparrot: lightthedeadparrot on June 8th, 2007 09:03 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Yeah, I think you end up missing the little things, in the end, because you prepare yourself for the big things. The little things sneak up on you.
